Charlie Gehringer Baseball Cards Value

by admin on March 10, 2011

Charlie Gehringer baseball cards are a must for any collector.  This 1949 Baseball Hall of Famer was fondly called “The Mechanical Man” and known for being a remarkable second baseman.  Although a legend in the game, many of the  best Charlie Gehringer baseball cards are undervalued. Some of his best cards are very hard to find in great condition due to wear and tear over the years.  These great collectibles can add a lot of value to anyone's collection. There are many things that made him one of the best 2nd baseman in all of baseball.

He began his professional career in 1924 when he started playing with the Detroit Tigers, the team he would remain with until retiring in 1942.  During that time, Gehringer accomplished many feats such as compiling a .320 batting average and having seven seasons with more than 200 hits, something even the great Mickey Mantle could not achieve.  In 1937, Gehringer was named the American League Most Valuable Player, he was among the Top 10 recipients voted MVP seven years in a row, and played every inning in the first six All-Star Games.  Gehringer also had 2,839 hits and 574 doubles in his career, placing him at number 19 in Major League Baseball history.

One of the best places to find his baseball cards is online through eBay although a number of other auction and dealer sites offer a nice variety from which to choose. The most expensive Charlie Gehringer card is his rookie card.  The 1933 Delong Gehring rookie card sells for $900 in NM7 condition.  Like most of his other great cards this gem is very hard to find even in off grade condition.  This is part of the reason why they make such outstanding investments.  The value of Charlie Gehringer baseball cards will continue to rise as the years pass and his cards become even more difficult to find.
