For collectors, a good choice includes Enos Slaughter baseball cards.  Although several good options exist, an autographed 1991 Topps Archives Enos Slaughter baseball card from the St. Louis Cardinals sells for about $5, while the original 1953 Topps Enos Slaughter baseball card sells for $35. Slaughter signed on with the Cardinals in 1938, batting left-handed and throwing right-handed.  At the end of his career with that team, he had 2,383 hits, to include 169 homeruns and 1,304 RBIs while playing 2,380 games.  For 19 years, he stayed with the St. Louis Cardinals but in 1954 was traded to the New York Yankees, followed by the Kansas City Athletics, and Milwaukee Braves.  Some accomplishments as a Major League Baseball player include being an All-Star 10 times and playing in five World Series, four resulting in wins.  Slaughter had been out of the game for three years while serving in the military but upon returning home, he made one of his most memorable moves in the 1946 World Series when in the deciding seventh game, he hit the ball and then rushed from first base to home, scoring the game winning run.  This play was named on the 2001 Sporting News’ list at number 10 for being one of Baseball’s 25 Greatest Moments.  In 1996, Slaughter’s St. Louis Cardinal number 9 was retired and in 2002, he passed away at age 86.
