Greg Maddux Bio- Considered a strong pitcher in MLB, the Greg Maddux rookie card is a real find. The 1987 Topps Greg Maddux Traded #70T Rookie Card with a PSA 10 grade in Gem Mint condition fetched between $50 and $60. Spanning 22 years, Maddux, who would become known as “The Professor” and “Mad Dog” played with multiple teams to include the Chicago Cubs twice, Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers twice, and San Diego Padres.
Introduced to baseball while young, he fell in love with the game and after training with a MLB scout, his brother Mike was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 1982 while Greg had no offers. Not deterred, Maddux was finally drafted by the Chicago Cubs as well as a second round draft pick in 1984. Leaving the minors, he pitched his professional game in 1986, becoming the youngest player in the majors at that time. After his brother was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies as a pitcher, when he and Greg met in a 1986 game it was the first time rookie brothers had pitched games for opposing teams.
Although Maddux had some struggles early on, some of his accomplishments while in the Majors include being the first pitcher in the game’s history to be a recipient of the Cy Young Award four years in a row, only pitcher in MLB to win a minimum of 15 games over the course of 17 seasons, holding the record for receiving 18 Gold Glove Awards, and being just one of 10 pitchers in MLB history to get 300 wins and 3,000 strikeouts.
