Only months later, he was traded to the Houston Astros, which proved to be great for him and the team.  In fact, Bagwell became one of the best players in the franchise’s history.  Having an established third baseman, Bagwell was moved to first and debuted in 1991 on opening day.  His performance would result in him being named National League Rookie of the Year.  His best year was in 1994 when he batted.368 to include 39 homeruns, 116 runs batted in, and 104 runs scored in his 400 at bats, followed by being named the NL MVP.

With a unique stance, Bagwell broke his hand four times yet he never gave less than 100%.  He was also a Gold Glove Award recipient and the seventh highest paid professional baseball player in 2005.  In 2005, an arthritic shoulder forced him to sit out but eventually, he was reduced to pinch hitting yet helped his team win the NL pennant.

An insurance policy dispute to cover Bagwell’s 2006 salary forced him to finally retire although he received the money due and today, he is the hitting coach for the Astros.  The best place to find a mint condition Jeff Bagwell rookie card is through auctions sites, although other online sites and sports memorabilia stores would also be good options.
