. The 2006 Upper Deck Ovation Jered Weaver #109 SP RC sells for about $10. In college, Weaver was the recipient of the Roger Clemens Award, named to the first team All-American by Baseball America in 2004, and was called “dominating” in the world of pitching by the Los Angeles Times.
Although a 2004 first round draft pick to play with the Los Angeles Angels’ minor team, negotiation issues did not allow the contract to be finalized until May 2005. In the minors, he moved to triple A quickly and when Bartolo Colon was injured, Weaver was called to the Majors in May of 2006. During that first MLB game, he pitched seven shutout innings to include five strikeouts and a game victory. However, with Bartolo off the disabled list, Weaver returned to the minors, only to be called back to the Majors within a few months.
While he experienced a few bumps, overall Weaver performed extremely well and with an 11 to 2 ending season, he ranked number five for the AL Rookie of the Year Award. The 2009 season was excellent and when pitching against the San Diego Padres, he completed his first shutout game, leading to being given the Nick Adenhart Award for Pitcher of the Year.
A new contract was finalized in 2010, followed by being added to the AL roster for the 2010 All-Star game. This player is still growing and expectations are high for continued success, which is why buying a Jered Weaver rookie card online through sites to add to a collection is a good idea.
