Jim Thome  Bio-

A great card for any collection is a Jim Thome rookie card.  A 1992 Bowman Jim Thome Rookie Card with a PSA 9 grade is just $17 and a 1991 Upper Deck Final Ed Rookie Card with a PGI 10 grade, around $15.  Thome was a 13th round pick as a third baseman in the 1989 MLB draft for the Cleveland Indians.

He began his career in the minors but after two years, he played in his first Majors game.  Just two months later, Thome hit his first career homerun while battling the New York Yankees.  In 1977, he switched positions from third to first baseman, followed by proving his value at the plate.  In fact, while playing in Cleveland’s Progressive Field, he hit a 511-foot homerun, the longest recorded for that particular ballpark.

Soon, Thome was given two nicknames to include the “The Thomenator” and “The Pride of Peoria.”  Although known for many things, his dedication to the game led him to being named the most popular Cleveland player in 2003 but of course, fans also know him for his trademark high socks.  In 2003, Thome signed a six-year deal with the Philadelphia Phillies and over the next two years set a number of records.  Then from 2006 to 2009, he played for the Chicago White Sox, again setting records such as getting the most homeruns in the month of April.

Another team change occurred in 2010 when Thome went to the Minnesota Twins, a team he plays with today.  A Jim Thome rookie card means having a piece of history for a great ballplayer and with these cards sold online through eBay or at sports memorabilia stores, they are easy to collect.
