Ken Griffey Jr. Bio-

Called “The Kid” or “Junior”, Griffey was one of MLB’s greatest homerun hitters and defensive players.  Twice named “Player of the Year” in high school, he was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in 1987.  Spending years with the team, after his friend Payne Stewart died in a plane crash, Griffey wanted to be closer to his hometown of Cincinnati so in 2000, he joined the Cincinnati Reds where he played great until experiencing a ruptured hamstring in 2004.  However, after surgery, he returned to the game in 2005 but was injured again.

Then in 2006, he passed Mickey Mantle’s all-time homerun list with 537, only to have another injury.  By 2007, Griffey ranked nine on the list for all-time career homeruns with the Reds but when playing against the Mariners, the fans gave him a huge reception and petitioned to bring him back to Seattle.  He traded to the Chicago White Sox in 2008 but left that year back to Seattle after a salary dispute.

In his 11 professional years, he led the AL in homeruns over four seasons, ranked 93 on Sporting News’ list of the 100 Greatest Players in 1999 and upon retiring in 2010, had 631 career homeruns, won the Gold Glove 10 times, and played in 13 All-Star games.  A Ken Griffey Jr. rookie card can be found on eBay and other online sites while some of his rare baseball cards generally sell through dealers.
