Everyone has heard of Sammy Sosa, whether a baseball fan or not so owning a Sammy Sosa rookie card is a real treat.  Considering he has long been a presence in MLB, it is somewhat surprising that his cards are easy to find and overall, affordable.  For instance, both an autographed 1990 Upper Deck Rookie Card, graded and an autographed 1990 Fleer Sammy Sosa Rookie Card, also mint grade  sell between $140 and $155.

Value of Sammy Sosa Rookie Cards

The price of a Sammy Sosa rookie card is determined by a few factors. The condition of the card or cards is vital to its value. The better the condition the more the Sammy Sosa rookie card is worth.  Scarcity also a determining factor when figuring out how much a Sammy Sosa rookie card is worth. Like condition, scarcity can make a big difference when it comes to pricing.

Sammy Sosa Bio-
Sosa got his start in MLB in 1989 with the Texas Rangers.  Following that, he played for the Chicago White Sox but in 1992, was traded to the Chicago Cubs where he would become known as one of the league’s best professional hitters.  Although Sosa’s list of accomplishments is long, one of his most memorable feats came in 1998 when he and Mark McGwire battled for title in chasing down a record previously set by Roger Maris.

When Sosa was caught using a “modified bat” in the 2003 season, his popularity declined and in 2004, he left the team.  He then played briefly for the Baltimore Orioles and Texas Rangers but while in Texas, he hit his 600th homerun, becoming only the fifth player in MLB history to do so.  He was also the only player to hit 60 homeruns or more within a single season on three occasions.  Sadly, after much denial, Sosa tested positive for performance enhancing drugs in 2003, of which Sosa had no comment.

However, when interviewed by ESPN recently, his comment was that he was waiting for his induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame after reaching eligibility in 2013.  A Sammy Sosa rookie card is sold in memorabilia stores, as well as online sites such as eBay and even big-time dealers.

I have a Sammy Sosa card that does not appear in any you show. I am looking for information, perhaps to sell it. It is a Leaf card, date, 1992. Number on card is “412″ series two. Picture is of a bat swing, but not any that are pictured elsewhere. If you can send me info as to who to contact, etc, I would appreciate it. Thank you. Shirley Buchanan
