Todd Helton Bio- In high school, Helton lettered in both football and baseball, being named Regional Player of the Year and receiving All-American honors by Baseball America.  Helton then went to college on a scholarship, again for football and baseball, which led to him being named Gatorade Player of the Year.  Drafted in 1995 by the Colorado Rockies for left field, he moved through the Minors quickly, being called for his professional debut in August 1997.  Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease in 2008, putting a big question mark behind his future.  For the 2010 season, much of his time was on the disabled list although he was DL a short time.  At the end of the season, a decision regarding retirement will more than likely be made.  However, with the long list of achievements racked up in his time with the MLB, Helton is impressive.  Just a few of these include being a four-time Silver Slugger Award recipient, three-time NL Gold Glove Award recipient, two-time recipient of the Roberto Clemente “Man of the Year Award”, receiving the Dick Howser Trophy, Sporting News’ Rookie of the Year in 1998, and the NL Hank Aaron Award, among many others.  Without doubt, buying a Todd Helton rookie card from eBay, Amazon, or some other online merchant would enhance a baseball collection.
