Franco Harris Bio- Harris was first drafted in 1972 by the Pittsburgh Steelers, which was thought to be controversial since many people felt Lydell Mitchel should have been chosen instead. However, over his 12-year professional career with that team, plus the Seattle Seahawks, Harris made quite a name. In fact, in 1990, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. As an example, during his first year playing, he was voted by United Press International, along with The Sporting News as the Rookie of the Year.
A few of his accomplishments included gaining 12,120 yards on 2,949 carries, catching 307 passes for 2,287 yards, and being ranked as the 12th in the NFL for rushing yards. He was also selected to the Pro Bowl nine times, played in four Super Bowls, all victorious, being named Most Valuable Player in the Super Bowl IX, and being the first African American and Italian American to win the honor of MVP in a Super Bowl. In fact, Harris was noted as The Immaculate Reception when in the 1972 playoff game against the Oakland Raiders, he led the team to a win. In his honor, a life-size bronze statue of Harris was erected in the Heinz History Center, followed by induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Although several online sites sell Franco Harris football cards, eBay is without doubt the best.
