Then in 1992, he was MVP of the 1992 NL Championship Series, won 15 regular season games, and again assisted in the World Series although this time to a loss.  The year 1996 brought a NL Cy Young Award, as well as a Silver Slugger Award.  An injury, followed by surgery sidelined him in 2000 but after coming back in 2002, he was able to break the number of record saves with 55 for the National League.

Although he had been a dominating closer for years, in 2005 he was added to the starting rotation.  Smoltz would go on to win more awards and set more records to include signing a one-year contract with the Boston Red Sox in 2009 but with poor performance, he was released early, followed by joining the St. Louis Cardinals that same summer, which resulted in only one win.

Finally retiring, he started a sports broadcasting career in 2010.  Affordable and easy to find, eBay is an excellent place to find a John Smoltz rookie card.
