Ryne Sandberg Bio-
With a nickname “Ryno”, Sandberg spent 16 years playing in the Majors, with the majority of his time with the Chicago Cubs although he actually started with the Philadelphia Phillies.  Because of his outstanding performance as a relief pitcher, as well as second baseman, one of the best in the history of the game, he was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2005, with a formal induction occurring six months later.  During his professional career, Sandberg was a multi-All-Star player with 10 total appearances, nine-time recipient of the prestigious Gold Glove Award, and with a .989 fielding percentage, a career record holder for second base.

Although offered the chance to be a star quarterback with Washington State, Sandberg turned his sights to baseball when drafted in 1978 by the Philadelphia Phillies where he would play entirely as shortstop.  However, with positions all accounted for, he was traded to the Cubs just prior to the start of the 1982 season.  At first, the plan was to put him in center field but he ended up at third base instead, becoming one of 1982s top-rated rookies.

With that team, he flourished, setting records for doubles, triples, homeruns, and stolen bases, but also helping the team to a NL Eastern Division title and being named NL MVP.  Today, a Ryne Sandberg rookie card is still a treasure, with options to buy offered through eBay, as well as other similar online sites.
