Sandy Koufax Bio-.  Koufax’s entire 12-year career was spent with the Brooklyn Dodgers, and then the Los Angeles Dodgers when the team moved to California.  Considered an exceptional player from the day he was drafted, he was the greatest during the 1961 to 1966 seasons.  Unfortunately, he developed arthritis after that, causing his playing to decline and ultimately, retiring at just 30 years of age.

Prior to the illness, Koufax was named the NL Most Valuable Player, was a three-time recipient of the Cy Young Award, won the Triple Crown for pitching, and led the National League in wins, earned run average, and strikeouts.  Sadly, Koufax was forced out of MLB way too early but with all the awards he won, the records he set, and the leadership qualities he possessed, he became the youngest former player to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, which occurred in 1972.

Koufax was also revered because he was one of just a few Jewish professional players, a man who stood by his values, which was seen in game one of the 1963 World Series when he refused to pitch because that day was Yom Kippur.  Although collectors may find a Sandy Koufax rookie card through sites like eBay, usually, people turn to dealers of sports memorabilia.
